Gordonvale State High School supports a range of students with additional needs to achieve their personal best.  Our program encourages and supports students with a disability to participate in all aspects of school life.
We work collaboratively with families, teaching staff, the Guidance Officer, Education Queensland therapists, specialist teachers and other professional organisations to meet identified needs of students.  Students with additional needs work towards exiting school with either a QCE (Queensland Certificate of Education) or QCIA (Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement).
Curriculum and the learning environment is adjusted to ensure student engagement whilst maintaining academic rigour.  Differentiated curriculum and teaching strategies and Individualised Learning Plans are developed.
Different levels of support are offered depending on the individual learning needs of the students:
·       In-class support is offered where teaching assistants, under teacher direction, support students in the usual classroom setting.
·       Alternate Classes follow a flexible model of delivery of educational services through highly individualised programs.  They comprise small groups of students taught by a specialist teacher. Junior classes access the National Curriculum and senior classes work around individual curriculum goals.
