School Chaplaincy Program

Chaplaincy has become a vital supporting role in our School.  Children's lives are being impacted, and our chaplains often help them avert many of the social problems experienced by children in today's society.

This is what a School Chaplain is and does:

  • They are a support conduit - connecting students to specialist services in the community such as welfare groups, counselling services, medical services and community groups in consultation with the School Principal
  • They build relationships with students.  They are a trusted adult in the playground and in the classroom - offering a listening ear to students who want to share their problems and experiences.
  • Their role is to contribute to the spiritual and emotional wellbeing of the school community.
  • They are seen by students as an adult who is not part of the school's authority structure.

You may be aware that the funding Scripture Union Queensland receives from the Government does not cover all the wages of our Chaplain.  As a result the Gordonvale State High School Local Chaplaincy Committee continually raises awareness and funds to help keep our Chaplain in our school.

If you can help us to keep this vital service running by giving a donation it would be greatly appreciated.  Please click the link for the donation form opposite.  This form can be emailed to  Please make sure you indicate "Gordonvale State High School" on your form.
