Hein was one of the 10 young players and his participation was remarkable, winning a gold medal in the Boys 13-16 Years Under 50kg division. At 13, this was Hein’s first year stepping up into the older age category. It was also his 3rd consecutive National championship gold medal.
All the young players including Hein have worked very hard during the 2 month lead up to this competition, training as often as 3 times weekly as well as additional individual home training.
Congratulations Hein for all your efforts leading up to the competition and including tangible medal reward, but also for your general participation as a child competitor at a high pressure and high profile sporting event. Hein’s next huge challenge will be to compete this December at the USA Winter Nationals, being held in Los Angeles. Annually the US Winter nationals attracts approx. 700 competitors. Hein last competed at that major event 3 years ago, when he managed a credible 5th place in a division of 19 players. He is hopeful of improving his placing this year. Also on the horizon is the 2019 Australian Kodokan Judo Associations.
