BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Program
In 2018, Gordonvale State High School will be
introducing a Bring Your Own Device program as an option for students who wish
to use their own devices (laptops or smartphones) on the school Wi-Fi and
network for learning activities.
Students and parents should be aware that:
All devices brought to the school and/or accessing the school network must be used appropriately as outlined in the GSHS Information Communication Policy.
Not all electronic devices are compatible with the school BYOX program.
To be compatible with our system laptops must comply with the following minimum specifications:
Smartphones may be used for some activities. Use of smartphones in a class setting is at the teacher’s discretion as per the ICT Policy.
Student and parents are required to read and sign the school BYOX charter before a device will have access to the school network.
Students are responsible for the care, maintenance and charging of their devices.
GSHS IT technicians will assist with connecting the device to the school network.
GSHS accepts no responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged devices, including lost or corrupted data.
GSHS does not provide support for personally-owned mobile devices in regard to:
Technical support
Charging of devices at school
Security, integrity, insurance and maintenance
Private network accounts.
Each classroom teacher has the discretion to allow and regulate the use of personal electronic devices including laptops in the classroom and on specific projects/learning activities.
When not in use approved devices must be in silent mode or switched off. Laptops will have their lids down.
Students will be required to provide their own headphones when listening to audio with the teacher’s permission
Network and email filtering will be applied to any device connected via the school’s network.
Gordonvale State High School is authorised to collect and examine any device that is suspected of causing technology problems or of being a sources of a virus or of being used to gain unauthorised access to the school network.
